What happens to a guided setup if I leave the page before the plan is finished?
Tares keeps your guided setup as a draft project from the moment planning starts, so leaving the page loses nothing. The draft waits on the Projects list with Finish setting up, which reopens it where you left it. Delete draft removes it, and because nothing of a draft is set up yet, nothing else goes with it.
How it works
When you click Plan it on the Goal step of guided setup, Tares creates the project as a draft and writes the plan in the background. From that moment the draft exists on your instance, whether or not the page stays open.
- While it plans: Tares shows what it is doing, such as reading what is already on your Tares, writing the plan and checking it. You can close the page or switch to another one. Planning usually takes under a minute.
- While you edit: the plan shows as four cards, Watches, Wakes when, Agents and Know-how. You can leave at any point while you change items with Change and Remove, or while you type in Say what to change and click Update the plan.
- On the Projects list: the draft appears as a row with Finish setting up. Clicking it opens the setup where you left it.
- What a draft contains: only your goal, who does the work and the plan. Nothing is set up yet, so no source, agent, tool or skill has been created for it.
Because parts are shared between projects, the plan reuses what you already have. An existing source, agent, tool or skill is used as it is and stays in the projects that already use it. Deleting a draft does not touch those parts.
Planning uses the model provider on your instance, the same one Ask uses. If none is added, the goal step says so and links to Add a model provider.

Set it up
- Go to Projects, then Create new. Answer What should this project achieve?, pick Who does the work? and click Plan it. The draft exists from this click.
- Leave the page whenever you like, while Tares plans or while you edit the plan.
- To continue later, open the Projects list and find the draft row. Click Finish setting up. The setup opens where you left it, with your plan as it was.
- To drop the draft instead, click Delete draft on that row, or at the foot of the setup page. The draft is removed and nothing else goes with it.
- When the plan reads right, click Looks right, set it up. Tares then creates the project and everything it needs in one go, and you continue with Connect and Try it.
If you work through the API, these calls cover the draft’s life. A draft is deleted like any project.
POST /api/setup/drafts {goal, who?}
GET /api/projects/{id}/setup
PUT /api/projects/{id}/setup {plan}
POST /api/setup/apply {plan, project?}
DELETE /api/projects/{id}The first call makes the draft and starts planning in the background. The PUT keeps your edited plan on the draft. The apply call turns the draft into the project when you pass it as project. The DELETE removes the draft.
What you get
- No lost work: closing the tab, switching pages or stepping away mid-plan leaves a draft you can come back to.
- A resume point: Finish setting up reopens the draft where you left it, with the plan you were editing.
- A clean exit: Delete draft removes the draft in one click, from the Projects row or the foot of the setup page.
- Nothing left behind: a draft has nothing set up yet, so deleting it leaves no sources, agents, tools or skills to clean up.
- Safe reuse: parts you already had on Tares stay in the projects that use them, whatever you do with the draft.
The guided setup page describes each step in full, from Goal to Try it.
When something else fits
- If you would rather pick every part yourself, the first step of Create new links to build it by hand from existing objects. The first step also links to Start from a template.
- If you only want to throw an unfinished setup away, use Delete draft rather than finishing it.
