What happens if a Rius payment fails?
Rius keeps ingesting your traces while Stripe retries a failed charge, and you fix the problem by adding another card on the Plan & usage page. If every retry fails, the subscription is canceled and the organization is locked, and an organization admin can subscribe again from the same page. Only organization admins can manage billing, so ask an admin if you do not see the buttons.
How it works
Billing is per organization and runs through Stripe. What Rius shows depends on where the payment problem happens.
- A payment method is needed. There is no card on file for the next charge. Adding a card does not change your plan.
- Payment failed. Ingest keeps running while Stripe retries the charge. You can add a different card, or use the link in Stripe’s email.
- Every retry fails. The subscription is canceled and the organization is locked. An admin can subscribe again from Plan & usage.
- Checkout does not finish. When you subscribe for the first time and come back from Stripe without paying, Plan & usage tells you what happened. Your plan stays unchanged and nothing is charged.
The checkout messages mean different things:
- Checkout not finished means you left the Stripe page before paying, for example with its back link. Nothing was charged.
- This checkout expired or Payment did not go through means nothing about the plan changed.
Costs that Rius shows for your model calls are a separate matter. Those are list-price estimates, covered in Track LLM and agent cost. This page is about what Stripe charges you for the plan.
Set it up
- Sign in as an organization admin and open the billing page:
Settings → Plan & usage- If the page shows A payment method is needed or Payment failed, click Add a card and enter the new card. You can also use the link in Stripe’s email about the failed charge.
- If you see Checkout not finished, pick the path that fits:
- Click Continue to payment to return to the same Stripe page.
- Click Check again if you did pay and the confirmation is late.
- Click Dismiss to choose a plan later.
- If you see This checkout expired or Payment did not go through, click Try again and choose the plan again. A successful payment returns you to Plan & usage, which reads “Confirming your payment…” and then “Payment confirmed”. The plan is active right away.
- To update your card or billing details at any time, click Manage billing. It opens the Stripe customer portal, where you can:
- Update your card and billing details.
- See and download every invoice. Stripe also emails each invoice.
- Cancel the subscription, which runs until the end of the current period.
- If the organization was locked after every retry failed, click the subscribe option on Plan & usage and go through checkout again. The full flow, including plan prices and overage, is on the Plans and billing page.
What you get
- Ingest keeps running while Stripe retries a failed charge, so a single declined card does not stop your traces.
- You can replace the card yourself, from Plan & usage or from Stripe’s email, without contacting anyone.
- A checkout you abandon or that expires leaves your plan untouched and charges nothing.
- Manage billing gives you one place for card and billing details, every invoice as a download, and cancellation.
- After you cancel, Plan & usage shows Cancellation scheduled with the date the plan ends. Click Resume subscription before that date to keep the plan. Changing plan while a cancellation is scheduled also keeps the subscription.
- If you change plan, the quote shows what is charged today, the new monthly total and the next charge before you click Confirm change. An upgrade applies right away and charges the prorated difference. A downgrade waits until the end of the current period, and Keep current plan withdraws it.
When something else fits
- If the trial ends and you have not subscribed, ingest is refused with HTTP 402 and the spans sent are dropped, so subscribe from Plan & usage before the trial ends. Stored data stays readable.
- If you are not an admin, ask one to handle the card, since members see “Only organization admins can manage billing.”
